Four Hill Farms, Inc. established in 2003, is a fourth generation family farm operated by brothers Jacob and Nathan Thompson and their families. The farm, located just east of Barnesville, MN, was originally established in 1907 by Jacob and Nathan's great-grandfather, Henry Thompson. Jacob and Nathan's grandfather, Arvid, eventually took over the farm and then their late father, David, began operating it after his retirement. The first head of commercial cattle were purchased in 1975. Four Hill Farms, Inc. began the transition to raising registered animals and the first registered Angus cows were purchased in 2008 from the Tokach Angus Ranch in western North Dakota. Since then, the registered herd has really taken off and currently calve out over 160 cows.


Our philosophy is to raise well balanced cattle with excellent maternal traits, sound structure, and tremendous carcass traits. We put our main focus on the mother cow. Our females must be structurally sound and able to produce a calf year after year especially in the extreme weather conditions of Minnesota. We can go from the mid to upper 90s and are hot and humid in the summer to subzero temperatures over 20 below in the winter. We select the best A.I. sires that improve and maintain these traits. We also utilize an extensive embryo program. Ultimately our goal is to assist and improve our customers’ herds to enable them to become more profitable.

Located on eastern edge of the Red River Valley, where the flat land meets the rolling hills, Four Hill Farms, Inc. has always been a small grain farm consisting of wheat, soybeans, corn, sunflowers, and in the late 2000s took the leap into sugar beets. Other services we offer are commercial haying and custom feeding in our many feedlots We also develop heifers, offer AI service, and have a buy back program for customers who raise similar genetics.
